Cochran, Jack

Jack Cochran has been involved in family law litigation throughout his legal career which began in 1967 and, since the early 1970's, has specialized in complex family law matters involving dissolution of marriage, modification of dissolution of marriage, business valuation, maintenance, and contested child custody matters.

Jack''s legal career in family law has led to his being named in Best Lawyers in America, in every edition since the first edition in 1983. He has also been referenced in various publications throughout his career as an outstanding family lawyer, including being named by Town and Country magazine as one of the outstanding 88 divorce lawyers in America.

Jack founded the law firm he has been associated with throughout his career, Cochran, Oswald, McDonald, Roam & Moore, P.C., in 1967. Prior to practicing law, he graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City with a degree in history and government. He received his J.D. from UMKC in 1967. He was named Outstanding Law School Graduate by Phi Delta Phi, International Legal Fraternity, in 1967.

He is the author of Family Law in Missouri, 1991 edition, which is a standard treatise used by lawyers and judges throughout Missouri and part of the Missouri Practice Series published by West Publishing Company.

Jack is also co-author of Family Law in Missouri, Missouri Practice Series, Volumes 21(a) and (b), in 2000. In 1985, he served as editor of The Missouri Family Law Form Book.

He has served as author of the chapter on Modification of Decrees in the Missouri Bar Family Law CLE Handbooks, Volumes 3 and 4.

Jack serves as a lecturer on family law for various law schools and bar associations, including: American Bar Association, Missouri Bar Association, Metropolitan Kansas City Bar Association, Metropolitan St. Louis Bar Association, American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Missouri Chapter of American Matrimonial Lawyers, Missouri Trial Lawyers Association, Lawyers Educational Institute, University of Missouri School of Law, University of Missouri Kansas City School of Law, and Southwest Texas College of Law.

Throughout his career, Jack has been extremely involved in bar association work by serving on numerous boards and committees.

He has been a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 1976 and served as President of the Missouri Chapter in 1987. He served on the Board of Governors of the Missouri Bar Association from 1977 to 1989; during that time, he sat as a member of the Finance Committee and served as the liaison between the Missouri Bar Board of Governors and the Missouri Bar Family Law Section. Jack served as Chairman of the Missouri Bar Association Family Law Section from 1985 to 1987. He is also a past President and member of the Eastern Jackson County Bar Association.

Jack has also been very active within various community organizations and has served as Chairman of the Jackson County Industrial Development Commission and the Jackson County Board of Equalization.

He is a past President of the Blue Springs Jaycees and the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce.

Jack has received numerous awards, including being named as the Outstanding Citizen Of The Year by the Blue Springs, Missouri Chamber of Commerce, recipient of the Missouri Bar Association President's Award, and has received the Outstanding Service Award by the Eastern Jackson County Bar Association. Jack is a past President of the Community Services League (a United Way Agency), and is also a past President of the Eastern Jackson County Chapter of the American Diabetes Association. He is an active member of the Woods Chapel United Methodist Church where he has sat on the Church Council.

Jack is married and has two children.
